Robin Steves graduated from the
University of Arkansas at Little Rock
with a Fine Arts Degree in Graphic
Design. Shortly after college she went
to work as an Art Director with a major
advertising agency in Little Rock.
After 10 years in the business and numerous awards for creative, design and art direction for clients such as ARKLA, Worthen Bank, TCBY and Alltel, she opened her own business.

On October 1, 1990, Robin began doing business as Studio B (the B stands for backyard). For 18 years she worked as a Commercial Artist and Designer in her backyard office.

May 26, 2009 was a tragic day for Robin. Her husband, Tom, was killed in a motorcycle accident. Her business and creative efforts came to a halt. But, three months after the accident, Robin re-opened her business in a new location. Studio B is now on the second floor above THEA Foundation. Her office is directly across the hall from where she now paints at THEArtists.

Robin’s work is bold, colorful, highly textured and whimsical. It incorporates collage, using a range of materials from string and paper to bubble wrap. The swirls she refers to as “life circles” are a recurring element in many pieces and they reflect her love of Van G
ogh. Animals—particularly cats—are another of her much-loved subjects and her salutes to Jackson Pollock are perfect therapy to relieve the stress of advertising deadlines.

Since fine art is a luxury and Studio B work a necessity, Robin has limited time for her passion. But the time is well spent and had produced a very limited number of pieces. Two have been featured in the THEA Foundation’s “Art Across Arkansas” program. Another piece—a large fish—is on permanent display at Arkansas Children’s Hospital. This piece led to Robin being commissioned to paint over 20 large painting for a new addition to the hospital.

In April of 2010, Robin was honored as the Pulaski Technical College Foundation’s “Business of Art” featured artist. The event also honored her late husband Tom, for his many years of work in the Little Rock business community.

Robin lives in Historic Park Hill in the home she shared with Tom for 19 years.
